Sneak out!

Recently, a wild young sneaker sneaked out into a tree, undiscovered by its owner. After checking out the sunset in Cable Bay it decided to stay on, so hold onto your sneakers at sunset or they could get away from you (especially if you're out of your tree at the time).

Overheard in Nelson, a Collingwood Street conversation...

Paisley: Hey man, you look terrible. You wanna iron yourself out a bit.
Blue: Humph!
Paisley: Decidedly dishevelled even. And you’re normally such a stuffed shirt too.
Blue: Well, we got home last night, me and him, three sheets to the wind and we lost the thread a bit.
Paisley: Lost the thread? Looks more like he lost the shirt off his back and you’ve been hung out to dry mate...
Blue: What would you know? You’re just a button-down, wide-weave, over-decorated fashion victim.
Paisley: Oh keep your shirt on buddy or those knickers down the line will get in a twist. I’m 100% wild and sneaky art cotton I’ll have you know.

Bug wit

On a mission to prevent bugs sneaking into the house, I set off in search of the ultimate insect remedy, albeit somewhat reluctantly. The not anything shall survive insect shelf, with it's wild array of bugicide options, suddenly loomed large before me.

To my great amusement, right in front of the Death To All Insects For Infinity Pack, was a screamingly large black bug about 2cm in length and 1cm wide. I wondered for a minute if this was the retailer having a hilarious day planting a fake bug there. So I touched it gently. It was happily alive, completely unfazed and getting on with it's business.

Clearly not bugged by the situation, it had been gifted a very wild sense of humour, which made me smile for the rest of the day. These are the times when I make mental note to never leave home without my camera, because it seems that things that make you smile pop up everywhere somewhat unexpectedly, so no pic this time.

It also reminds me that remaining larger than life is always the best policy.

Bring out the gimp

An unconfirmed rumour of wild, sneaky and unexpected hilarity, good humoured generosity and cheeky fun has reached our ears here at wild & sneaky. The way we heard it was this…
 

‘Twas the day before Christmas, 24th December 2010, when all through the Nelson court house nothing unusual was stirring, not even a court mouse. Up the judge stood, his mind perhaps full of the thoughts of eggnog, declaring an end to the day’s proceedings before duly leaving the court room. It was noted that, not long after, another man of some known legal standing in Nelson circles, also stood and exited the court room.
 

A few minutes passed when suddenly, and most unexpectedly, the door opened again and in ran to the court room an unknown personage, attired in what could only be described as a gimp suit. For the uninitiated, one could only imagine this as being black in colour, skin tight in construction (more than likely of Lycra fabrication) and reminiscent of a certain character from the movie Pulp Fiction.
 

But what the gimp did next was even more extraordinary. He ran around every nook and cranny of the court house giving out Christmas sweets, being sure not to forget even the prisoners in the holding cells below. What a generous Christmas gimp this was indeed!
 

Once gimpy had left, the gentleman of some legal standing returned from his errand, who bizarrely and much to his disappointment, had missed the whole event…

Wildly manky to magnificent!

This is a story of domino kindness, generosity and collaborative creativity. It’s about how one act of generosity can inspire another.

Craig and Michelle Hunwick’s daughter, Bo, received life-saving treatment at Starship Hospital. As a result of this she is now a happy, smiling 3-year-old. Craig and his team from Nyberg and Nelson Upholstery generously agreed to let their highly creative inner upholsterers sneak out, upholstering a couch as part of WASA!® 2010 Wild and Sneaky Art Festival. Award winning interior designer and WASA!® director, Julia Kelly, went wild with the couch design which everyone loved, also at no charge.
 
WASA!® wanted to acknowledge Craig’s generosity, so Julia swung into action and raffled the couch to raise funds for The Starship Foundation. $530 was raised for The Starship Foundation during WASA!® Festival Week 2010.

A very delighted 4-year-old Bindi is now the proud owner of the gorgeous WASA!® couch. The couch has gone from being abandoned and left to die down in a back garden by three successive families to a wildly funky, colourful gorgeous piece of furniture that now resides proudly in the rooftop apartment of Bindi’s family. Her Dad, Ajay, from the Mid City Motor Lodge said that Bindi felt like she had won the lottery – and her Mum, Rhonda, said she would probably want to sleep on it tonight.

 

We should add that the couch was very sought after, with one person buying 10 tickets in the hope of getting it (…we would like to say sorry you didn’t win to Katrina from MoreFM! Despite her disappointment in not winning the couch, she generously offered to call up the lucky winner live on the air).
 
The WASA!® crew found it a little difficult to get five people and a couch into the elevator at once, however, it was totally worth it to be able to deliver the ultimate Christmas surprise to Bindi, send a cheque to The Starship Foundation and know the couch will be well loved.
 
Clearly, the moral of the story if you are a couch is that even if you are abandoned in a garden and filled with beer bottles and it seems like nobody gives a damn – don’t give up! You might just be the next centrepiece for an event and there is always someone out there who will love you!!!!!!!!
